Uganda plans joint bid with Tanzania to  host  2027 AFCON

Uganda has shown interest in hosting the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in 2027, officials said.

Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President Hon. Eng Moses Hassim Magogo said President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has granted a go-ahead for Uganda to make a joint bid with Tanzania to host 2027 continental tournament

 “We shall come out soon to tell Ugandans with details when the right time comes. At the moment we have obtained the much sought total commitment from government”, he told FUFA television.

He said:” We have already engaged the Tanzania Football Federation about the development and the Dar e salaam authorities are expected to endorse our idea”.

The football administrator cum politicians said  the current major concern  now is lack of football stadiums to host the continental soccer showpiece ,

 “We are looking forward to having Nelson Mandela stadium plus St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende,  Masaka Recreation Ground, Buhinga ground  and Akii Bua stadium constructed and upgraded,” he said.

Hon Magogo said according Confederation of African Football (CAF) for any country to host the tournament it has to have at least six FIFA standard stadiums or at least three if one is co – hosting.

Senegal is one of the top footballing nations on the continent that has expressed interest to host the 2027 tournament.  Southern African nations Namibia and Botswana, are trying a joint bid to host ■
