The 15th International Conference on ICT for Education, Training & Skills Development, which will take place in Kigali, Rwanda from 11 – 13 May, 2022.
A unique event, Africa’s largest conference and exhibition on technology supported learning and skills development, eLearning Africa is a network of experts, professionals and investors, committed to the future of education in Africa.
The eLearning Africa 2022 call for papers closed on October 1, 2021 where those who wished to host pre-conference events, would be involved in one of our multiple session formats for the conference dubbed” A new purpose for Education”.
While Sub-Saharan Africa is still trying to meet its SDG 2030 commitments, the global health and economic crisis is reshaping all aspects of our lives. It has affected all countries, all economic sectors and all organisations. What will the world be like after Covid?
As governments try to predict the length and depth of the crisis, the situation has brought many changes, some of which will be permanent. Education, which will affect both population levels and economic growth, will be the difference between future success and disaster.
In this context, is technology the answer? Yes and no. Digital education alone is not enough. The demands of this ‘new normal’ will require us to give education a new purpose, driven by adaptability and resilience, in order to build a unique and sustainable vision for African education.
The key to the future is an African agenda that ensures decisions are taken in an African context and with an emphasis on African priorities. African experience and African traditions, such as ‘ubuntu’, will enjoy a new relevance. Equally, African ideas of community and partnership with nature could soon mean that Africa is increasingly recognised as a resource of knowledge, experience and education for the whole world.
So, with the theme of “A New Purpose for Education”, eLA 2022 will be looking at a range of issues, including: the specific, practical challenges facing African countries, the suitability of global models in the African context and the importance of redirecting education to what are likely to be African countries’ future needs.
The conference shall examine the use of technology in enabling African countries to respond to their specific needs in context, the development of a single African market and the consequent opportunities and requirements of employers. They will also discuss the contribution Africa can make to global learning and to providing African experience to solving global problems
