Owere can use PDM in Tororo, says Werikhe

Former National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) Secretary General Hon Peter Werikhe Christopher has lashed at suspended federation Chairman General Mr Usher Wilson Owere for wasting time in courts.

Hon. Werikhe, a Member of Parliament for Bubuulo West on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, said Mr Owere should leave NOTU leadership to young people and instead do farming in Tororo under the Parish Development Model .

He said:” Mr Owere has messed up NOTU, created divisions in the workers’ federation and has become a liability to the labour fraternity. He should do farming in Tororo under the Parish Development Model and make a living at old age.” Hon Werikhe was speaking after the High Court ruled and declared that embattled federation Chairman General Mr Usher Wilson Owere was illegally sacked by NOTU General Council. The legislator said the continued litigation following NOTU’s appeal remains inconsequential with Mr Owere looking forward to earn some money if the ruling is in favout but he will all together be sacked in disgrace. The embattled NOTU General Chairman General Usher Owere told a Press Conference after he won the first round in court that he is seeking reconciliation with all his detractors within the federation. But Hon Werikhe dismissed Owere’s disguised maneuvers for reconciliation as a ploy aimed at evading the wrath of enraged NOTU affiliates who have vowed to vote him out for messing up the labour federation.

He said: “ Why didn’t Owere seek reconciliation with NOTU affiliates before he rushed to court on matters that could have been determined by the Gender, Labour and Social Development (GLSD) level.” Mr Owere is accused of double standards after the GLSD ruled in his favour following the November 15, 2022 vote of no confidence by NOTU General Council .but later rushed to court when the same affiliates removed him on January 9, 2023. “ Owere cannot fool NOTU members and public all the time and forever when the truth is known that he messed up and must be sacked. We shall wait for court to deal with our appeal but no matter the outcome of the ruling he must leave NOTU ,” said Hon.

Werikhe. Hon Werikhe said when he joined NOTU the federation was renting office space from a tiny location in Ntinda but through his commitment and visionary leadership he managed to acquire a permanent home in Kyaliwajjala, a Kampala suburb . “ As I left NOTU I was satisfied that for the first I acquired a permanent home for the federation despite all odds,” he said■
