A group of 300 matatu SACCO members have thrown their weight behind the Kenya Public Benefits Organisation (PBO) National Federation strategic election peace plan under
the National Election Support Initiative (NAESI).
NAESI is on the ground working through its countrywide branches for peace building initiatives that address any stress triggers to political violence ahead of the August 10 2027 general elections.Speaking today Thursday October 8 2026 while welcoming SACCO members at his head offices during Peace Ambassadors one day conference, PBO national chairman and NAESI national co-ordinator Stephen Kipchumba Cheboi said the SACCO would play a critical role in complementing peace building activities in the country.”We are grateful to have this new addition as a major stakeholder and development partner as we join forces to ensure the country holds free, fair, peaceful and credible general elections in 2027,” Cheboi said.SACCO chairman Karithii Kimani and Treasurer Nelson Chek agreed to become affliate members of NAESI saying public transport was a critical parameter in the quest for peaceful elections before, during and after the general elections..”We shall use our countrywide transport network to pitch tent for peace among all our members as we also promote more civil ways of conducting customer friendly business,” said Kimani..Cheboi hailed public transport as central to the daily lives of almost all wananchi saying the SACCO has joined more than 500 civil society groups that support NAESI in addition to the 13,000 affiliate members of the PBO federation who are critical stakeholders in the drive for lasting peace before, during, and after the general elections next year.
