Museveni castigates the West over homosexuality promotion in Uganda

    By Our Reporter.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has castigated the West for promoting homosexuality in Uganda and thereby destroying the cultural values especially the youth in schools.

He said Uganda will never embrace homosexuality adding that the West should stop seeking means and ways of imposing its views on African countries to treat homosexuality as a norm yet it is completely a deviation.

“We are not going to follow people who have gotten lost. These Europeans are abnormal and do not listen  to our arguments on preserving our cultural norms and values ,” he said.

The President was guest of honour  at the national celebrations to mark February 16, Janan Luwum Day at Wii-Gweng village in Mucwini Sub-County, Kitgum District. The former Arch – Bishop Janan Luwum was killed in 1977 by military leader President Idi Amin Dada for  being a critic and for links with anti -Amin Ugandan exiles.

Mr Museveni  was responding to requests by the Church of Uganda Archbishop, His Grace Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, for the government to  extend support to  the Church  by enacting laws that will condemn and curb homosexuality.

He said:” The Western countries do not   listen. They  even do not respect other people’s views  but  they want to turn the abnormal into normal and to force it on others which we shall not agree.” he said.

“Mr Museveni said they want to appeal to government to be bold and come out in the open to fight homosexuals  that have invaded the country with intend  to “kill” the nation..

Church of Uganda Archbishop, His Grace Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, has been on the foreground in the fight against same sex marriages and led the church to break links with the Church of England that promotes homosexuals.

The Church of England, from which other Anglican provinces  are affiliated voted February 9, 2023 for priests to bless same-sex couples in civil marriages.

Archbishop Kazimba of the Province of Church of Uganda, said the Canterbury decision contradicted teachings of the Bible and God.

He appealed to President Museveni for the Anti-Homosexuality Act he signed some time back against homosexuality be revisited and signed again.

A survey carried out by journalists has unearthed deep rooted schemes by gay and lesbians promoters in schools with view to brain wash and recruit children into their heinous criminals acts.

Uganda Parliament passed legislation over claims of foreign-sponsored gay and lesbian recruitment in the country, and similar allegations have remerged, but the Constitutional Court struck it down on technicality that it was enacted without quorum.

The Act provided that a person who purports to contract a marriage with another person of the same sex commits the offence of homosexuality and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for life.

But while on a trip to the United States following signing of  the Anti-Homosexuality Act into law, President Museveni was confronted at hotels and on streets with pro-gay protests. He later advised legislators against plans to revive the annulled law, warning that it had foreign policy implications.

Uganda is among 77 countries that criminalise gay and lesbian practices, according to the United Nations

The National NGO Bureau, the statutory regulator of the civil society sector, in a leaked January 2023 report named a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) it said are suspected of promoting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex-Plus (LGBTQI+).
