The end results of pregnancy is baby birth. Biblically, pregnancy is associated to the powers of God. It is believed that children are given by God himself (Psalm 127:3) just to get a few examples. In the book of Genesis (21:1-3), we read the story of Sarah – Abraham’s wife. For a long time she had no child until she prayed to God who answered her prayers, conceived and gave birth to Isaac.
Another example is that of Hannah – the wife to Elkanah who gave birth to Samuel after praying to God to bless her with a child (1 Sam 1: 20). In a similar manner, when Joseph befriended Mary and took her for a wife, it is stated in the scriptures (Matthew 1:18-20) that he discovered that Mary was pregnant so, Joseph wanted to drop her but God intervened in a dream and Joseph was told by God that don’t fear to take on Mary because the womb she was carrying was of the Holy Spirit. So, this is enough evidence to prove that God has a very big role to play in making one pregnant.
When you come here home, the Baganda of the early times had a similar belief. There were many gods in Buganda (Lubaale) but the one responsible for giving children was known as “Mukasa”. Whoever wanted children had to request Lubaale Mukasa to give her favour so that she can conceive.
Unfortunately, scientifically, all these are stories. The fact is if you want a baby, there must be sexual intercourse between a woman and a man – the process which ends in ejaculation, then fertilization of a woman’s egg before one conceives or gets pregnant. So, scientifically, God has no role at all in the exercise however much you pray to him. I am also mindful of those who play sex and pray to God but never conceive or get pregnant but I will discuss them in part two of this story.
All those who make people pregnant are advised to make a study of the psychology of pregnant women. Here below are some of the most important tips to note about pregnant women.
• Forgetful
They tend to be very forgetful because pregnancy hormones affect their memory. During pregnancy, many women are usually forgetful. They will not remember all the details. Some may not even remember when they conceived. So, be careful when you deal with them. Don’t blame them for their failure to remember some details.
• Short tempered
Most of them at this point in time have short tempers. They can easily get annoyed even on trivial issues. They can abuse you or even fight, so be cautious not to annoy them or if you discover they are annoyed, go away or leave them alone.
• Their appetite is short-lived
One minute a pregnant woman wants to eat fish, if you delay by the times you come back she has changed and now likes goat meat, so be careful and mindful of that.
• They will always crave for funny things.
Sometimes one may opt to sit near the toilet or wear a shirt her husband has bee wearing for several days without a wash! We have seen many of them chewing dry soil, clay or even eating raw mangoes among others.
You need to learn all these dynamics if you are to assist her live comfortably with you. Remember that this situation is temporary and that it usually clears immediately she gives birth or slightly before■
